#TalentedTuesday: Isaac Opoku, CEO of Ikez group

This blog was originally published on the FB page of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana

Isaac Opoku is a 26-year old graduate from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Currently, he is the CEO of Ikez group of companies which has 5 separate brands and which each operate individually. These brands consist of Ikez multimedia, Ikez clothing, Pause & Pop, Ikez Consult and Starlight Foundation. He is a brand influencer, a digital marketer and has worked on many digital campaigns for companies in Ghana such as Ecobank, Stanbic Bank, Airtel Tigo, Orijin, Coke Studio Africa, First National Bank and much more which were all done under iSel Media. However, because of his love for agriculture, Isaac also deals in Snails farming.

As a founding member of Starlight Foundation, Isaac’s aim as a philanthropist is to tackle the issues of streetism, gender inequalities and access to healthcare. This vision has led to the “Let’s Feed the Street Together’ initiative, which feeds over 1500 street kids on the 25th of December each year. The Foundation has also made strides in ensuring that less privileged individuals in certain parts of the Volta region registered on NHIS without incurring any cost. Not to mention the “We’re Coming to Your School” project which is aimed at teaching school children basic health and safety tips, reproductive health, time management, and career choice and decision making.

These projects resulted in Isaac winning the “Best Social Media Personality of the Year (2018) by Faculty of Art – KNUST`”. On top of that, he has been nominated for the “Top 100 Student Entrepreneurs in Ghana (2016)” by SYENet and was also nominated for the Most Influential Student Entrepreneur 2015 (Ghana Tertiary Awards) by Youth Web Ghana.

What was your motivation to start your business?

“I needed something to happen. I couldn`t wait for it so had to do it myself. I get depressed when I see kids loitering around the roadside when they are supposed to be studying in class. However, I quickly realized that solving this problem would not be possible without funds. I decided to start something to raise money with which I could help the less privileged”

What makes your business unique?

“The slogan of our company is “We Meet Expectations”. We live up to that slogan by always ensuring that our clients have the best of products and services from us. We advise individuals and institutions to work with us since all earnings go directly to the Starlight Foundation.”

What inspires you?

“What inspires me is the uncertainty of tomorrow and that nothing is promised. It inspires me to push harder as it brings a lot of unanswered questions in my head. I do not know what the future holds, so I need to prepare myself for it.”

What is your advice for other young entrepreneurs?

“My advice would be that giving up is not an option. Find your passion and go after it. Do not wait for approval from anyone as it is your dream and not theirs.”

“Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.” – Jack Ma
